BRIDAL SHOW - "BRIDES THEN AND NOW"
Why the Honeymoon?
In ancient times, many of the first marriages were by capture, not by choice. When early man felt it was time to take a bride, he would often carry off an unwilling woman to a secret place where her relatives wouldn't find them. While the moon went through all its phases (about 30 days) they hid from the searchers and drank a brew made from honey. Hence was set the honeymoon.
These brides were all happily wed.

ANTIQUE CAR SHOW - MARCH 15, 2008

1926 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Roadster:
This vintage car is the star attraction for this years fundraising event on Saturday, March 15th from 10-3 on the museum grounds. The ghost was purchased by the Boyntons at a Pebble Beach auction in 2002 and then completed the 2003 European Alpine Celebration Tour of over 3,500 miles. It was made in Springfield, Mass. by R-R of America. The roadster body, made by Merrimac, is called a "Piccadilly" and is original to the car. Westinghouse Corp. made the generator, starter motor, ignition/light switches and the vacuum operated four-wheel-brake booster. The distributors and coils were made by De Jon, a designer name of Auto-Lite of Toledo, Ohio. The 7.4 liter six-cylinder engine develops about 48 horsepower at 2200 RPM and gives eleven MPG, not bad for a 5,500 pound car. The Boyntons purchased the car at a Pebble Beach auction in 2002 and it completed the 2003 European Alpine Celebration Tour driving over 3,500 miles.
There were fifteen cars in total at this vintage event. Included were: A 1950 Jaguar MKV Saloon, a Ford Model A Phaeton four-door convertible, 1958 & 1976 original Corvettes, a 1958 Austin Healey, an Alpha Romeo Spider and a 1941 Cadillac. All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit the museum, a nonprofit 501 c (3).
CHRISTMAS TOY SHOW - DECEMBER 5, 2007 - JANUARY 5 - 2008
This year's theme: "It's a Man's World: The Decade of 1900-1910, When Teddy Roosevelt was President.
The story of the teddy bear dates back to 1902 when President Roosevelt was hunting in Mississippi. Unable to find a bear, the hunting party brought a small bear cub to camp for Roosevelt to shoot, but he refused because the animal couldn't defend itself.
A cartoonist for The Washington Post sketched the episode and captured the public's imagination. Roosevelt's daughter, Alice, is also depicted in Miss Charlotta's Tea Room. The blue ribbons, cards and cigarettes attest to a woman who was a high profile society figure from her debut until her death.
For children visiting the museum there are displays of wooden pull toys,
mechanical toys and Kewpie dolls. A life-size teddy bear will be raffled off at
the end of the show.
